An In-between Post

Hi Peeps

I hope you are all feeling spiffy! I am hunky-dory, thanks. I just wanted to pop in with a quick post to remind you that our next challenge will not go live until the first Monday of the month - which for this next month  is the 7th July! So, don't panic if you pop in and see no challenge yet - it is coming ....on the 7th July!

In the mean time I just wanted to show you some work I did without using any stamps.  I usually rabbit on about things I have seen made without using stamps in various magazines, and when I got my latest copy of Australian Simply Cards (No 69) it had the usual freebie of a pack of paper in it, some pearls and a sheet of die cuts.  They are the Melissa Frances Bits of Paper set of 6 x 6 paper pad with die cuts to match. Very pretty they are too.

The magazine also had a four page spread on how to use your free gift so I didn't even have to think - all I had to do was follow their suggestions! I made 6 cards - not exactly like but similar; I have some different die cuts and flowers, and I used card from the stash, that matches the colours and bling, but altered things only slightly. The 'leaves' in card one are made by cutting out the petals of a green flower.

One of the things I noticed was that the colours in the magazine were quite a way out - the photos were quite bright while the papers and diecuts were not as bright. I also smeared around some ink on edges quite a bit more than they did.  I still have about half the papers and die cuts left over. They have gone into the stash for another time.

The black flower on the bottom left is made by cutting into a scrap piece of DP I had laying around in my scrap tray. I cut out two 'flowers' (circles) and layered one into the other.  I had fun making these and finding the stuff in my stash to step in for stuff the magazine had used and I didn't have - yes, there are things out there that I don't yet have! You can also see that I didn't make them all the same size or shape as the magazine ones.  They took me about 20 minutes each to make.

The point I wanted to make is that there were NO STAMPS used in creating these six cards - either in the magazine or by me - ink, yes, but not stamps. So, it is not only probable but possible! I got to use stash, make some pretty cards with very pretty papers and die cuts and stretch my ingenuity a bit!! Really I think layering is the main effect here and it is not all whole sheet on whole sheet - there are lots of smallish pieces diecut and layered in a stepping motion.

See you on the 7th July for our next challenge ............ think Julie Andrews singing, think romance, think twirling.........the TWIST involves ribbons!

Final Week for Challenge #36 - Mixed Media

Challenge #36 - Mixed Media; TWIST - alter something!

Well, there is only a week left for you to enter your amazing project using mixed media
into our current Challenge

More on that in a moment

Sunrise at Nutgrove Beach (photo courtesy Mercury site)

Today, as I write this is the winter solstice: or yesterday was - or whatever, last night was the longest night for the year! We are heading back out of winter into Spring! Or, if you are reading this in the northern climes, you are heading into Autumn after the summer solstice.

Today is also the last day of our Dark Mofo Festival, and the final morning saw the NUDE SWIM  in the Derwent River. The water temp must have been pretty cold (about 11 degrees) but it wasn't as cold as out of the water at sunrise - about 7 degrees. I was in bed all warm and toasty!  Bbbrrrrrrr........ It has been an excellent festival and it will be interesting to see what they can top it with next year but apparently the swim will be on again - coming down to participate?

Challenge #36 Mixed Media PLUS new team members welcomed

Well, what a very busy post this one will be - I have several things to do: (reminder - winners from May will be announced next week)

Firstly, I would like to welcome several NEW Design Team Members to the team - in no order except alphabetical

SAMARA from Canada

I'm Samara. Bohemian. Hippie. Mommy. Pet Lover. Color freak. Introvert. Quirky. Country Girl. Artist. Loyal. Protective. Leo.

 and  WYNN from Cyprus

I have lived in Cyprus for many years and thoroughly enjoy the relaxed way of life. I have always had an interest in all things arty-crafty but didn't start card making until I arrived in Cyprus after retiring from teaching in England. I currently, along with another ex pat, run a Card and Papercraft Group here in Paphos. I am also involved with a charity, Paphos Ex Pats Kidney Assn. We raise money for the Dialysis unit at the General Hospital. We are currently trying to raise money for another Dialysis Machine. The cost will be 25,000 euros so I'm busy with lots of fund raising events. My life here is very full but I naturally miss my family. I have two children and four delightful grandchildren who are growing up too fast.

Secondly, we have to say another sad goodbye to a team member - Jan has decided to leave as well, and enjoy the busy Spring and Summer time. I know when Merry decided to close this blog late last year, and then I took it over at the very last minute, Jan was obliging enough to stay and help get it going again, so I am thankful for the time and effort, Jan and wish you all the best in whatever you newest venture may be.

Now, dear reader, if you were hesitating about applying for a DT role at Unstampabelles before and you are reading this, you may be inspired to apply - just shoot me an email! Remember, you would be working with NO STAMPS AT ALL!

Now, as you know from the heading, the new challenge is:

MIXED MEDIA
with the
TWIST - ALTER SOMETHING

So it can be a card, or a project or a page - as long as it is paper based and does not have stamps (rubber, digi or poly!).  You have a month - until 27th June in fact - to create something, photograph it and uplift it to here!

Isn't that fabulous!!

What inspiration have we from the wonderful Design Team?  Lets have a look!

Our Guest Designer for this month is the very talented

My Photo

Hi, My name is Jackie Cornfield. I am a happily married mother of two and grandma of one. All girls and we adore them! I manage 2 craft shops and card making/papercraft is a massive passion of mine. I try to do it daily! I am on several Design Teams and just love it, blogging has become my major addiction! There is no cure!!

Previously the tin was the container my husband’s leather male( !) bracelet came in, I nabbed it for this project!

Yummy work and so fun!

Now, what have the rest of the DT come up with to inspire you all!

She says: I've used stamping misting and applied paint through a mask

Wynn
She used paint to cover a wooden photo frame and added diamantes .....with her new gem setter whoo hoo....plus silk flowers.

A mixed media canvas!  She had a great time playing with the paint, texture paste, rub-ons and different patterned papers!

I used glimmer mist to stencil the inside of a pizza box (the scrapbooking order variety not the ones with left over cheese and crumbs!) then cut out to appropriate size. Go visit her blog to find out what else happened to create this beautiful piece!

I have been playing with frames and canvas, but for today I have altered a canvas and then added it to the front of a card.

She says: I have altered a notebook cover using paints, photo, papers, lace, diecut butterfly, stickers and glitter

So, let us see what great things you  all come up with - mix your media and add the TWIST by altering something as well.

Remember - you cannot use stamps of any kind for this challenge.  If we find a stamp, the entry becomes ineligible and the image is replaced. This is only fair to all those of you who are willing to accept a challenge, not just make a card and find a challenge theme that looks as if it suits.
